Corneal areas of treatment
What is NearVision CK (Conductive Keratoplasty)?
CK is an FDA-approved, non-invasive procedure for Baby-Boomers between the ages of 45 to 60, who have had good vision all their life, but now struggle with wearing reading glasses to see life's finer details.
How is CK performed?
CK is preformed using radio frequency waves instead of a laser or scalpel, to reshape the cornea and help bring near vision back into focus. CK uses a small probe the size of a single strand of hair in a circular pattern around the outer cornea to shrink small areas of collagen. The collagen acts as a constrictive band to tighten and increase the overall curvature of the cornea. This helps to make the eye more near sighted.CK is for those who:
Collagen band helps steepen the corn
- have difficulty with close vision
- want to reduce their dependence on reading glasses
- are at least 45 years of age
- have not had a significant change in their vision for one year
- have no health issues affecting their eyes
Other Refractive Surgery Options
PRK (Photo-Refractive Keratectomy)
In addition to LASIK, the Raleigh Eye Center offers photo-refractive keratectomy (PRK). PRK is another procedure used to correct nearsightedness and involves removing corneal tissue from the surface of the cornea, causing the central optical zone to flatten. This allows light rays to focus more directly on the retina, thereby reducing nearsightedness.
LRI (Limbal Relaxing Incisions)
Limbal relaxing incisions (LRI) is a procedure to help treat high amounts of Astigmatism. Astigmatism can exist alone or in combination with nearsightedness or farsightedness. With this condition the cornea becomes oval-shaped like a football instead of round or spherical, causing distortion when the eye tries to focus. LRIs are placed on the far peripheral aspect of the cornea (the limbus), resulting in a more rounded cornea. Astigmatism is reduced, and uncorrected vision is improved.
