A native of Raleigh, Dr. Johnson received her medical degree from Thomas Jefferson School of Medicine in Philadelphia in 1986 where she finished in the top third of her class. She completed her internship at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and her residency at Wake Forest University / Bowman Gray School of Medicine. She is an undergraduate of Wake Forest University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1982. She practiced ophthalmology in Greensboro and High Point, North Carolina beginning in 1990 before moving to Raleigh in 1998.
Dr. Johnson is a Board Certified ophthalmologist specializing in general ophthalmology as well as cataract surgery.
