I am a recovering Myopic. I have been a myopic for more than 40 years. I have been wearing glasses or contact lenses since I was in the seventh grade. I thought I had found a cure with soft lenses. They made my eyes feel more comfortable. Over the past years, I have researched the new procedures and when LASIK was introduced I found this procedure to be the least invasive. After my initial screening, I knew this was for me. I put my trust in God and Dr. Kiley and his capable team. They explained completely all the steps, expectations and complications- The day came for my first procedure, my left eye. It was painless and quick. I rested that afternoon and only had infrequent burning sensations. The first day as I peeked through the openings in my shield, I thought boy, I can see. The next day as we drove to Durham for the second procedure, I could read the license plates on the cars ahead of us. I thought, how amazing! The second procedure went just as well. Post-op, my left eye was 20/20 and right eye was 20/25. 1 couldn't believe it. There aren't enough adjectives to describe this newfound freedom. At last,, I can watch TV without glasses or lenses. I wake up in the morning and I can see the clock! It is wonderful! I do not have longevity yet but I take each day one at a time and enjoy it to the fullest. I had my LASIK surgery June 1, 1998. Since then there has been a big difference in my eyes. Today, September 24,1998 1 am reading 20/20 in my left eye and 20/25 in my right eye. I had worn glasses since I was in the 9th grade and in the early 70's I advanced to contacts, which I wore up until the time of my surgery -NO MORE CONTACTS -, NO MORE SOLUTION. It is great; I would do it all over again, wish I had done it sooner. Not only can I see, I am more relaxed, I do not go out to clubs, shopping etc. and stay worried I am going to loose a contact. Because of my age and other problems my eyes were starting to dry out. My eyes were staying red and scratchy feeling all the time. I was to the point I never had a comfortable day with them. Now people say my face looks relaxed, not as tense around my eyes. My eyes are white instead of red. To be honest, I was absolutely scared to death to have the surgery. I don't even like to have a regular eye exam. But thanks to Dr. James Kiley and his wonderful staff, they prepared me for everything. In October of 1997 1 attended a seminar at The Raleigh Eye Center to learn more about the possibilities of refractive surgery. I had contemplated some sort of corrective-eye surgery for years. I was very impressed with Dr. James Kiley and his staff. I was given the information I needed regarding surgical procedures and costs and was in no way pressured to make a decision or commitment. Dr. Kiley saw me in February for my evaluation appointment and scheduled my LASIK surgery for March. March 9th and 10th will be forever two of the most momentous days of my life. For over 40 years I had been totally dependent on glasses and for the first time, in my memory, I was able to see clearly without the aid of glasses or contact lenses. The LASIK procedure was absolutely painless took approximately 15 minutes to complete, and caused only minor discomfort, slight burning, after the surgery. The discomfort lasted only about 2 hours. The day following each procedure, when the protective shield was removed from my eye, I had 20/20 vision. My refractive reading prior to surgery was 20/600 or a -6.0. 1 had opted for monovision so that I could read best with one eye and see at a distance with the other. This has worked beautifully for me and I now wear no corrective lenses at all. It has been three weeks since my LASIK surgery and I am experiencing no problems whatsoever. I am very grateful to Dr. Kiley who has spent years in training and research so that I can realize the sight that was denied me for so many years. I have 'a new found confidence and outlook on life. Having suffered for as long as I can remember with ill-fitting glasses and every kind of contact lenses from hard to soft, this is truly a dream come true for me! K.D.

After wearing contacts for 30 years, I was very pleased to have my "natural" vision returned to me through LASIK surgery performed by Dr. James Kiley. Not only do I not have to worry with the daily upkeep of contacts, but my eyes are definitely not as tired after long work days or outdoor activities. The procedure was handled in a very professional manner by Dr. Kiley and his staff with the surgery being absolutely painless.
