Clear vision is essential for proper physical development and educational progress for growing children. Early detection of vision problems or eye diseases provides the best opportunity for your child to receive effective treatment and optimal outcome. The pediatric opthalmologists at Raleigh Eye Center are specially trained to detect and treat these eye conditions.
The caring staff at our eye center understands that a trip to the eye doctor can be scary for a kid. Our Raleigh, NC pediatric eye care unit is a fun, friendly atmosphere for your child to relax — they might even forget they are at the doctor!

At Raleigh Eye Center, kids eye exams are assessments of vision using age-appropriate testing objects. Our ophthalmologists examine alignment of eyes, eye muscle function, as well as internal and external health of the eyes. It’s often necessary to dilate your child’s eyes, which a 20-45 minute process in most cases — the drops do briefly sting, but children rebound within minutes. Our office includes a waiting area specifically designed to make children feel more comfortable while recovering. Dilation drops cause light sensitivity and blurred vision that usually lasts 3 to 6 hours, but some dilation may last up to 24 hours. We offer disposable sunglasses for your child to wear after the exam.
If you think your child might have a visual disorder or eye problem, contact our fellowship-trained pediatric eye doctors in Raleigh on Executive Drive to schedule an eye appointment. We will make sure that your child is seeing their very best! In the mean time, we recommend that parents view the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus or Prevent Blindness North Carolina websites for more information on pediatric eye problems.
