Raleigh Eye Center Blog

Learn more about optometry care in our blog!

Raleigh Eye Center (REC), the Triangle’s leader in laser vision correction for more than thirty years, is looking for the goofy pictures of people in their glasses or glasses-like contraptions in exchange for a chance to win LASIK. REC is launching their contest on both their website and Facebook page beginning April 1, 2014. Participants may enter the contest by uploading a goofy photo of them wearing glasses or glasses-like contraptions.

Blue light is all around us. It’s in the sky, on our smartphones, the televisions we watch, and many more electronic devices. About 33% of the light that we detect in our eyes throughout the day is actually high energy visible (HEV) light or otherwise named blue light.

Raleigh Eye Center is happy to share our new website with you! We hope that you take advantage of all the helpful information it presents about our LASIK surgery, cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment, pediatric eye care and other eye care services. As always, feel free to contact our eye doctors with your questions or to schedule an appointment at one of our two eye center locations.

Dry eyes is a common problem. It can be caused by dry air, cold weather, the natural aging process and certain medical conditions. It can cause irritation and blurry vision. The good news is that there are several tips to help dry eyes that you can use.

With technological advancements, computer usage has increased over the years. The average person spends approximately 8 hours in front of a computer, which has led to an increase of eye computer vision syndrome. According to the American Optometric Association, computer vision syndrome (CVS) is a group of vision and eye related problems that arise from extended use of computers.

Lazy eye, which is also known as amblyopia, is a type of vision problem that typically only affects one eye. It occurs when there is a miscommunication between the brain and the eye. This causes one of the eyes to weaken. Fortunately, lazy eye can be treated by a Raleigh NC eye doctor.

You may have experienced double vision after a particularly fun party, or an extra-exhausting shift at work. This type of temporary double vision is usually nothing to worry about.

Glaucoma, a silent condition that causes damage to the eye’s optic nerve, is often attributed to the buildup of pressure in the eye. A recent study published in Public Health Nutrition evaluated the possible connection between vitamin D levels and open-angle glaucoma. The purpose of the study was to determine if low levels of vitamin D increased incidences of glaucoma.

In their almost-540-million years of existence, eyes have adapted to suit some pretty unique behaviors and environments. Although we mostly talk about human eyes on this blog, today we’ve decided to highlight some of the most incredible eyes in the animal kingdom! To get your eyes checked, remember to schedule an appointment with our Raleigh children’s eye doctor today.

Let’s face it, young eyes often take a beating, especially when contact lenses are worn. For the college age group, there are many late nights studying and hanging out with friends, which can take its toll on young eyes.
